Astral Observatory

"Wondering about the mysteries of the universe, he spent the whole night studying, and before he realized it was morning again..."

The Concept

"Astral Observatory" is based on a concept simply titled, "Classroom", by Kevin Gnutzmans on Artstation.

To me, this concept has an air of mystery and wonder about it. The feeling of staying up all night, searching for a cosmic reason for our existence, and completely losing track of time. We all search for a purpose greater than ourselves, to find our place in the universe. The slow ticking of the clock is a somber yet constant reminder that time keeps on moving forward, whether or not you come with it.

A project that let me push out of my comfort zone in some areas that I haven't had as much experience in. The character in this scene was modeled, rigged, animated, and cloth simmed by me. It was fun to go through a whole character pipeline in a low-pressure setting as the character in this scene is essentially a prop. Animating the clock and telescope was also very satisfying. The lighting in this scene was also extremely art directed, as there were specifically shaped highlights in shadows in the concept that I wanted to replicate.

Responsible for all aspects except for the plants, which were from Megascans.

Thank you to David McMullen for teaching me how to rig for this project.
